This book will now inspire Manuela to explore more of Italian cooking. When it comes to cooking at her home she has two approaches. When she has more time, usually on the weekends, she prepares delicious foods from scratch. The focus of a lot of her cooking is based on recipes from her native Portugal. She has also experimented with Indian, Greek, and Italian recipes. Her favourite is Indian food that she loves for its spiciness and zest.
During the week when she is busy working, she takes a different approach to cooking. After a full work day, she searches for food that gives her a lot of variety and less preparation time yet tasty. She finds many great ideas using President’s Choice food at her local Loblaws store. She buys ready made food, heats it up and serves with a home made sauce. She also buys different vinaigrettes such as sesame, using it as a sauce for grilled asparagus. Or she grills salmon with lemon herb dressing that she uses as a marinade. One of her all time favourite is to grill brie and to serve it with ready made caramel sauce and fresh apples.
About her choices of wines, she told me that when she is in Portugal she always enjoys the wide variety of Portuguese wines available. In Toronto she particularly likes Sauvignon Blancs from New World countries like Chile, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
When she feels like going out she usually enjoys some new Indian restaurants in the Yonge and Eglinton area of mid-town Toronto. She also mentioned the great time she had at a New Year’s celebration in Kultura restaurant in the King and Jarvis area near downtown Toronto.
